Between Centennial Celebrations and Innovation: Past, Present and Future Meet at the Montreal Jazz Fest
Imagine circa 100,000 people descending on the downtown area of your city for the love of music. . . That was the scene at the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal on the night of June 27th, when the duo Angine de Poitrine from Saguenay, Québec played a historic, record-breaking outdoor show on the festival’s main stage, blasting a frenetic mix of math rock, metal, punk and jazz — a testament to the adventurous, open ears of Montreal music lovers. Keeping to the promise embedded in its name, the festival’s 2026 edition (June 25-July 5) once again showcased diverse international talent of the highest caliber, including celebrated vocalist Cécile McLorin Salvant, French-Lebanese trumpeter Ibrahim Maalouf, saxophonist Joshua Redman, and Japanese pianist Hiromi.
