Originally from Carpi and now based in Bologna, Manuel Caliumi is among the most interesting young Italian voices on the saxophone. In recent years, he has played in various projects ranging from small ensembles to large orchestras, and even in settings supporting vocals, always bringing his own distinctive approach. He thrives on the energy of improvisation, adapting it to different contexts while paying close attention to timbre and sound. With one eye on tradition and the other on contemporary music, he embodies a new generation of jazz musicians. We talked with him about his artistic journey and his future projects. Musica Jazz is the first Jazz magazine in Italy.
It has been published continuously since July 1945.
It is the second longest running Jazz magazine in the world and among the longest running in Italy.
In December 2015, it was awarded the prestigious Ambrogino d'oro by the mayor of Milan.
It is published monthly and has been published with an accompanying record since November 1981.
