Chicago is an open-air laboratory where jazz learned to survive the music industry, house was born out of a physical and communal urgency, and dub arrived from across the Atlantic, turning into a mental space before it even became a studio technique. It was within this ecosystem that Tortoise took shape in the early 1990s — not simply a band, but a sonic organism. Describing them as pioneers of post-rock is something of a shortcut. Musica Jazz is the first Jazz magazine in Italy.
It has been published continuously since July 1945.
It is the second longest running Jazz magazine in the world and among the longest running in Italy.
In December 2015, it was awarded the prestigious Ambrogino d'oro by the mayor of Milan.
It is published monthly and has been published with an accompanying record since November 1981.
