The repertoire, selected together with pianist Gonzalo Rubalcaba – a central figure in the project – and performed by a quartet completed by Peter Washington on bass and Kush Abadey on drums, becomes the starting point for a deeper exploration of melody, language and sound. The first woman to win the Thelonious Monk International Jazz Saxophone Competition in 2013, Aldana has built a career firmly rooted in the jazz tradition while continually evolving as both composer and improviser. Filín marks an important stage in that journey, with a renewed focus on the ballad form and an increasingly refined conception of sound as a primary expressive tool.
