Gianni Coscia: A Lifetime in One Album

It is a remarkable moment for Gianni Coscia. Now 94 (he will turn 95 on 23 January 2026), he has just recorded and released his solo debut, La Violetera, which he presented on 26 October at 6 p.m. at the Triennale in Milan. Meanwhile, on 6 September, he released 93 39 / 39 93 on Encore Music, a duo recording with Alessandro D’Alessandro on accordion. The numbers in the title represent the ages of the two musicians at the time of recording in March 2024. We discussed that project in detail in our previous interview with the Alessandria-born accordionist (MJ, September 2024). This time, we concentrate on La Violetera, along with a wealth of new and old stories. As always, Gianni is generous with his memories and displays a prodigious recall for someone his age.
