Do the encounters that transform our lives happen by chance? Even the most skilled puzzle-solvers would struggle to connect the dots linking Carl Jung, Sting and Riccardo Del Fra, with whom we spoke at length about the deeper threads running through his artistic life. Yet if one traces those dots backwards, the connection becomes clearer. Again and again, the most international of Italian double bassists returns to the ideas of synchronicity and acausal connection. It was Sting who, in 1983, proposed that The Police build a concept album around a theme remarkably close to one first formulated by Carl Jung thirty years earlier.
