An invisible thread connects the rolling hills of the Marche region to the vibrant, chaotic atmosphere of Rome – and it is along this thread that Andrea Molinari’s music moves. Born in Jesi, the guitarist and composer has long been immersed in the creative pulse of the Roman jazz scene. True to form, Molinari chooses a title that invites reflection: Awakening / Il Tutto Nel Nulla draws inspiration from Giacomo Leopardi’s Zibaldone, the poet’s diary of aphorisms and meditations. In it we read: “Children find everything in nothingness; men find nothingness in everything.”
For Molinari, this aphorism offers a perspective on the world seen through the eyes of childhood – an invitation to enter an intimate and aware sonic universe where every note becomes a gesture, a landscape, or a memory. His original compositions open like small rooms onto infinity: one senses the resonance of readings layered over time, yet also the urgency of the present; the silence of delicate introspection alongside the freedom of improvisational dialogue.
The leader’s guitar serves as a narrative voice – evocative, restrained, and precise. Recorded in Arezzo with the collaboration of the Dutch engineer Van Gelder and some of Italy’s finest jazz musicians, Awakening / Il Tutto Nel Nulla resists categorization, embracing listening itself as a ritual and a means of connection.
This is an album that does not impose itself, but endures – like all things that are truly real.
