Difficult to categorize—and all the better for it—Cortado is a bold statement of intent from the HackOut! trio. There are elements of jazz-rock, punk, free improv, and Mediterranean lyricism, but the music never settles in one place for long. The result is a whirlwind of contrasting textures and shifting forms.

Zennaro’s guitar veers from heavy distortion to melodic nuance; Caliumi’s saxophone alternates between rhapsodic flights and piercing attacks; Cocetti’s drumming is relentless and responsive. There is tension and volatility, but also space and surprise.

More than anything, Cortado captures the sheer joy of spontaneous creation—its instability, its vitality, its truth.
