Jason Palmer opens this formidable double album unaccompanied—an emblem of his deeply personal yet collective approach to jazz. Across nine expansive tracks, spanning over two hours, Palmer leads with both authority and generosity, allowing his stellar ensemble to contribute equally to a dense and intelligent musical architecture.

Palmer, a veteran of bands led by Roy Haynes, Herbie Hancock, and Wynton Marsalis, has also built an exceptional solo discography since 2007. The Cross Over may be its crowning achievement: a live set that marries tradition with innovation, form with fire.

The group plays with unerring cohesion. Grenadier and Gilmore form a rhythm section of stunning elasticity, while Turner’s serpentine lines provide contrast and depth. There’s no grandstanding—only musical conviction. This is a live record that captures the essence of modern jazz: rooted, exploratory, and alive with spirit.
