The trio formed by Tobia and Michele Bondesan with Giuseppe Sardina returns with the second chapter of the Music for Dance project, which now also gives its name to the group. Their first release under this title, in 2023, already demonstrated a remarkable capacity for timbral and rhythmic exploration. Spin represents a natural evolution and expansion of that vision. The absence of harmonic constraints multiplies the possible levels of interaction among the three musicians and the musical material, creating a vivid sense of freedom.
At the heart of their research lies the rhythm inherent in all things, from music to human beings, from cells to stars, from movement to time, and from time to dance. The title alludes to this circular motion, as suggested by the beautiful teaser that accompanied the album’s release. Greater structural complexity and an expanded timbral palette — synthesizers, samples, tapes, prepared instruments, toy drums — shape a living and ever-changing fabric that constantly balances the materiality of natural sounds with more abstract ones, without ever losing coherence. This is clearly the result of the trio’s focused imagination and the deep familiarity that comes from their long-standing collaboration. Their expressive language is not only unified but also personal and innovative.
As if in a further stage of development, freer and less tied to a specific conceptual framework, the trio deepens and transforms perceptions, suggestions, sounds, and gestures into an amalgam that reflects a strong and shared creative vision. The result is contemporary music that seems to draw on mnemonic images of an arcane past. It is strikingly mature and compelling, distinguished by its quality, originality, and depth.
This album is highly recommended.
