This album stems from two concerts held at The Stone two years ago. Conceived primarily by Adam Rudolph, who invited Liebman and Hart to collaborate in shaping the compositions, Beingness presents over an hour of freely improvised music in which the percussive element naturally dominates.

Liebman is far more than a distinguished guest here – he interacts continuously with his two counterparts through a stream of incisive interventions amid a densely textured rhythmic landscape. His playing retains its customary poise and intellectual clarity, marked by a sense of control and reflection. Yet, at times, he struggles to avoid a certain repetitiveness and discursiveness.

Still, there are several moments of real inspiration, especially in four of the nine tracks: “Unfolding,” the opening piece, where Rudolph also plays piano; “Pathways,” where Liebman’s tone is at its sharpest – urgent and restless; “Transparent to Transcendence,” built around a quiet, contemplative dialogue between soprano and piano, lightly touched by electronics and cymbal whispers; and the closing “Mystique,” driven by a more eloquent and propulsive rhythmic energy.

While not an essential entry in any of these artists’ discographies, Beingness remains an intriguing and rewarding listen – a document of three masters navigating the shifting terrain between intuition, structure and sound itself.
