Good morning, Angelo, and welcome to Musica Jazz. It’s been a busy summer for your Medit Orchestra. Could you tell us how this large ensemble project came about? The Medit Orchestra was founded only five years ago, but it carries forward the legacy of Suono & Oltre, an orchestra I established in the 1990s. Among other things, we presented the world premiere of a composition by John Patitucci, commissioned for the occasion. The idea was to create an ensemble capable of merging classical sonorities with new contemporary languages, moving between jazz, singer-songwriter music, electronics and orchestral writing. The name “Medit” evokes the Mediterranean – a place of exchange and encounters, a cultural space where differences become a source of richness.
