The appeal here lies in the imperious return of a format that carries its own aura: a 10-inch LP with five tracks, running just over twenty minutes, pressed in a limited edition of 300 copies on bright blue vinyl. Released on Samuel Blaser’s own label, the album finds the trombonist in a dazzling session with two exceptional partners – most notably guitarist Marc Ducret, long absent from the spotlight – recorded in the English town of Cheltenham in October 2023.

The music moves at a brisk pace, with the three players engaged almost without pause. There is simply no time for self-indulgence or empty display. Instead, the result is concise yet powerful, focused, and full of vitality. A product as lean as it is convincing – and proof that sometimes less truly is more. Perhaps others will be inspired to follow this path.
